What you should know about balance transfers

Calculate your repayments

To decide which card is right for you, you could calculate the amount you'll need to pay back each month to pay off your balance in full, before the 0% offer ends.

A simple example to help you calculate

'I want to transfer a balance of £4400'

Balance Transfer card

There's no balance transfer fee - so divide £4400 by 20 months = £220

You'll therefore need to pay £220 per month to pay off the card in full before the 20 month 0% offer period ends.

Longer Balance Transfer card

The balance transfer fee is 2.75% - so divide £4400 by 100, then times by 2.75. For £4400, the fee will be £121.

The total amount you will owe with this fee is £4521

Divide £4521 by 28 months = £161.46

You'll therefore need to pay £161.46 per month to pay off the card in full before the 28 month 0% offer period ends.

How do balance transfers work?

What you'll need

First, we'll ask you for the long card number of the card you wish to transfer a balance from. You'll then need to decide how much you want to transfer.

Save time and transfer a balance when you apply

The quickest and easiest way to do a balance transfer is during your application where you can transfer balances from up to 5 cards.

Transferring a balance after applying

If you'd rather wait until after you've applied to make a balance transfer, you can call the number on the back of your card and we'll be able to help.

There's no need to chance it

Our eligibility checker allows you to find out whether you'll be accepted before you apply with us. It takes around 2 minutes and it won't harm your credit rating.
